This free presentation will take place on Friday, February 28th, from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at the Guam Museum Theater.

Amanda is a 2024 Ocean Exploration Trust Science Communication Fellow and sailed aboard E/V Nautilus as part of Lebuu’s Voyage II, an 11-day expedition that involved studying the biodiversity, geology, and bathymetry of Palau’s southern waters.

Nautilus is a 68-meter research vessel equipped with remotely operated vehicles that are able to collect biological specimens, water samples, and video data that is live streamed across all Nautilus Live social media platforms.

As part of this HITA Talk, Amanda will discuss her pathway as a science communicator as well as her experience collaborating with cultural liaisons, scientists, and engineers to bring the science of the deep sea to viewers worldwide. Amanda formerly worked as a science communicator for the Guam National Science Foundation Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (Guam NSF EPSCoR), which focuses on exploring the biodiversity of the Marianas and the effects of climate change on the region’s marine ecosystems. In that position, she wrote news releases, web articles, and produced social media content regarding the discovery of new marine species, coral reef health, and invasive species. She currently works as a freelance science communicator.
