PRESS RELEASE

Hagatna, Guam (July 2, 2024): The Guam Museum Foundation, Inc, in partnership with the Department of Chamoru Affairs, Guampedia, and PBS Guam, is proud to present 3 Nights at the Museum, commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Guam’s Liberation on July 10, 11 and 16.

“On July 10th and 11th, at 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm, in the Guam Museum Theater, we will be premiering a short film by Niel Tinkham titled “Along the Ugum River” which recounts the story of the discovery of Sargeant Soichi Yokoi, a Japanese straggler who spent 28 years in the jungles of Guam after the end of World War II”, stated Rita Nauta, Managing Director of Guampedia.

“We will also feature a full length film titled “The War for Guam”, a film by Frances Negron Montenaire, and produced by Baltazar Aguon and Dr. Miget Bevaqua. The film shares the story of World War II from the Chamoru perspective, told by our War Survivors in their own words, and it gives the background of how this all came to be.”

The Guam Museum Foundation is accepting a donation of $10 per person for these two nights to watch the films.

“On July 16, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, The Guam Museum Foundation will host “A Night at the Museum…Tuba, Chesa yan Setbesa Dos”, a fundraising event that will assist the Museum in continuing its work of telling the story of our people” said David Tydingco, Chairman of the Guam Museum Foundation. That evening, guests will be entertained by Patrick Palomo and Tradewinds, feast on delicious Chesa prepared by the Grill Sargent, taste locally produced Tuba
from Mallesso, and sample great beers and wine offered by Guam Premium Beverages, Ambros, Inc., Island Beverage Distributors, and Titan Imports.
Guests will be able to watch the featured films shown on July 10 and 11 at 6:30 or 8:00 pm, take a tour of the permanent exhibit and the rotating exhibit, and purchase art and jewelry made available by our local artists.

The cost for this event is $125.00 per person and attendees must be 21 years of age or older.
