Each year as part of the Guam History and CHamoru Heritage Day festivities in Humåtak, a reenactment of Ferdinand Magellan’s 1521 visit to Guam is held. Guam History and CHamoru Heritage Day was previously known as Magellan Day or Discovery Day and was set to coincide with the anniversary of the explorer’s visit.

Several decades ago, this reenactment focused primarily on celebrating Magellan, and the courage it took to explore oceans previously unknown to Europeans and lead the circumnavigation of the globe.

In more recent years, in connection with the renaming of this public holiday and using it to highlight CHamoru culture and history, the reenactment has changed to focus less on Magellan himself, but rather highlighting the life of CHamorus prior to colonization.
