In response to the requests of so many who follow the Guam Museum on social media, here is another image from the collection of Gustav Riemar.

Riemar was the paymaster aboard the SMS Hertha, a German which in 1876 traveled the Pacific visiting many Pacific Islands, including Guam and Saipan. These images are thought to be the oldest photographs taken in the Mariana Islands.

In this image a kilu’os håyu or wooden cross has been placed on the high overlooking Guam’s capital Hagåtña.
