greg perez world record marlin 1969

On August 21, 1969 Greg Duenas Perez set the world record for Pacific Blue Marlin, for catching this fish off the coast of Litekyan (Ritidian).

The fish was more than 1,150 pounds and 15 feet long. Siñot Perez’s record stood for 12 years, before being broken in 1982. This catch remains the record for Guam fishing til this day.

This past weekend the Greg D. Perez Sport-Fishing Foundation held a derby in honor of Siñot Perez’s fishing accomplishment. The goal of the foundation is to keep alive Guam’s proud fishing traditions, which date back millennia and continue to be maintained and adapted up until today.
